I don’t think this day could have been more perfect! The sun was shining on the mountains and
these two have the most beautiful connection! From the very moment I showed up things went so
smoothly which can’t always be said on wedding days ha ha.
Ashley had such sweet details for me to photograph the morning of their day including a custom
ring box and her invitation and save the date. I also loved that her girls were wearing super cute
custom shirts instead of robes. We did have to cut hers off so it didn’t ruin her hair but we cut it in
a way so she can wear it again ha ha.
These two said their I Do’s on top of the hill at Quarry Lake Park with mountains all around and their
closest friend sitting by for their unplugged ceremony. They also incorporated Karl’s German roots into
their day by incorporated the cutting of the log. It is an old German wedding custom, the tradition of
cutting a log represents the first obstacle that the couple must overcome in their marriage.
They must work together to “overcome the obstacle” by sawing through the log. This was such a unique
thing for me to photograph as I have never seen it at a wedding before…and I photograph alot of weddings ha ha.
We had alot of time after the ceremony for photos so after exploring Quarry Lake Park for photos these
two actually had about an hour of downtime before their reception. So while they took a breather I went
to Cornerstone and had the rare opportunity to photograph the venue completely empty and it looks
absolutely gorgeous. They had things set up so nicely. This wedding is full of fun stuff like a smores bar,
a tequila cake and a dancing T-rex…yeah you read that right ha ha
Before we get to their wedding story, here are some words from the newlyweds.
How did you guys meet ?
We met in high school. Karl used to pick on me in the hallways poking at me until we finally started hanging out
Please share the proposal story with us?
While we were evacuated during the Fort McMurray wildfire, Karl bought the ring.
About a month after we returned and found alternate living we wet for dinner one night
and took a walk around a nearby pond. When we reached a gazebo there was rose petals, candles
, a banner with our names, and dozens of photos of our memories over the previous 8
years – and that is when he got down on one knee
Most memorable moment from the wedding day:
Bride: sitting at the head table of the reception and just being in the moment.
Looking around at all the guest enjoying themselves, and appreciating that they all
traveled to be here for US and celebrate this amazing day with us.
Groom: my most memorable moment was watching Ashley come down the aisle. She looked stunning.
Special aspects of the day that made it unique:
– our German wood cutting ceremony as a symbol of overcoming our first obstacle
as a married couple. And an obstacle it sure was.
– our “tequila shot cake” was a HUGE hit. Personally every time I’ve attended
weddings hardly anyone eats the cake after dinner, and a separate dessert followed by
dinner so we wanted to do something we hadn’t seen before and would be put to use –
so we went with 3 tiers of tequila good-ness.
What was the easiest decision you made for your wedding:
– I think our easiest decision was choosing cornerstone theatres as our wedding
venue. They were so incredibly helpful and easy to communicate with.
What was the most difficult time consuming choice that you made for your wedding
day and advice to couples on this.
– I would say the most difficult choice was choosing how the bar would work. We wanted
our guests to enjoy themselves without having to fork out $6-8 a drink. However we
also didn’t want to pay $3000+ on top of everything. Luckily cornerstone had many options for bar
service and we decided to do tickets. Each guest got the same amount of drink tickets which would cover
up to a $7 drink. So I would say if other couples are on the same fence we were about it, the
tickets are an excellent alternative. This way the guests get an “open bar” for so long and we
didn’t have to fork out an unpredictable amount of money.
Advice to couples planning their wedding day:
– just do your research on vendors and venues. Check reviews, use reputable vendors. All of our
vendors were AMAZING, I have nothing to say otherwise.
