Canmore Wedding Photographer
James & Siobhan’s Cornerstone Theatre Wedding
Red Bloom Photography
It is no secret that Cornerstone Theatre in Canmore is my favorite venue! Yes I will say it, I have a
favorite! I shot my first wedding there in 2017 and then another 5 there last year and this wedding is
my first of 2019 there! What do I love about it? Well lets just forget for a second that the venue itself
is beautiful and rustic and lets talk about the staff. The staff is fricken amazing ! Like no other when it comes
to how they treat me as a vendor so just imagine how well they treat their couples! And the food…omg,
let me tell you about the food! I usually take my plate and eat privately cause i eat so much … no no,
I am joking…kinda! I eat privately as it is my first time to relax all day so I like to just sit on my own
rather then at a table. Cornerstone Theatre is just an all around great venue and they now have their
own exclusive outdoor ceremony spot that is stunning as well! James and Siobhan were the kick off
to my mountain wedding season and it was amazing! The sun was shining for these two and they were
all smiles and so chill all day. Makes my job so easy when a couple is totally trusting and just goes with the
flow. I just can not say enough about this day and these two so I will stop now and let them do the talking
Some words from the newlyweds
How did you guys meet?
We met at work in April, 2016. We were friends/co-workers for a year and the stars aligned and we
started dating.
Please share the proposal story with us?
I (Siobhan) had left for week in Mexico with my best girl friend. James met me at my parent’s house
when I got home and we drove home together. When I got home, I saw a wooden box on the counter in
the kitchen, engraved with ‘J & S.’ When I opened it, it was filled with photos of him and I. There was a
special note written on the back of one. The box was filled with memories from special days that we had
spent together. The ring box was underneath it all and when I opened it up, he popped the question. I of
course said yes
Most memorable moment from your wedding day?
Bride:
I want to say the whole day! It was absolutely amazing. The weather was perfect! I have to admit that I
have never been as nervous in my life as I was the moment leading up to me walking down the aisle. But
after that it was a breeze! It was honestly the most perfect day. I was so happy that we could spend it
with everyone that was close to us.
Groom:
So many moments stuck with me, being completely fine up until I was at the front of the congregation
and she was walking up the aisle then just being ridiculously nervous. Or watching the dance floor get
flooded when “The Last Saskatchewan Pirate” came on. Or the food at Cornerstone Theatre being
amazing (especially the donuts from Kakes by Darci.)
Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?
James’ socks were customized with a ‘beautiful’ photo of Siobhan. I (Siobhan) had a special bouquet
charm with a photo of my Pop (grandpa) that passed away a few years ago. It was nice having him with
me during the day even though he wasn’t physically there.
How did you two decide on a destination mountain wedding?
We are originally from different provinces (Sask. Alberta/Newfoundland) so we knew that guests
would have to travel either way. Our first trip together was to Canmore and we loved it there. We
picked a spot that was special to us and we knew that our guests would love it as well. And I mean, who
doesn’t love the mountains!?
Beside making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision you made for your
wedding? What made it so easy?
Picking our venue was probably the easiest part. We knew when we saw Cornerstone Theatre, that we
100% wanted to get married there. It’s popularity also made it an easy pick for us. Everything else
wasn’t particularly easy, some decisions were easier than others, but really it was a big leap of faith
most of the time because we were planning a wedding from 8 hours away.
What was the most difficult, time consuming choice that you made for your wedding day? And advise to
couples on this?
Finding reasonably priced transportation was hard in Canmore. It’s quite expensive to book a limo there
but at the end of the day it is worth it. We did a lot of research, even in Calgary area, for transportation.
The internet will be your best friend! In the end it was definitely worthwhile.
Advice to couples planning their wedding day from another province?
Pick a venue with a wedding coordinator/planner. Or hire a wedding planner yourself. Honestly, we
would not have been able to do it without Kathi from Cornerstone Theatre. Being so far away, you really
have to trust your choices. Social media was so helpful to us as well. Since we weren’t able to meet
many of the people we hired, reviewing portfolios and reading reviews was really helpful. And honestly,
choosing Monica was one of the best choices we had for our wedding. We mean it! 😉 She is unbelievably
organized and our photos are amazing.
