Matt & Chloe’s Leduc Stone Barn Gardens Wedding
Red Bloom Photography
Sometimes I just have to pinch myself cause this dream job just really does feel like a dream to me.
People always ask if I always knew that I wanted to be a photographer or that if I went to school to be
a photographer and the answers are big no and no! I actually grew up wanting to be a marine
biologist (something the bride and I have in common) and I went to school to be a teacher. My
career took a drastic turn when I planned my own wedding and realized my dream job was to be a
wedding photographer. Fast forward ten years and here i am living my dream…and what makes it
feels extra amazing is when a fellow extremely talented wedding photographer asked me to
photograph her very own day! Chloe is the amazing talent behind Chloe Photo http://www.chloephoto.com/
I was just completely flattered and honored that they chose me
as the person to document their day. Matt and Chloe planned a beautiful romantic day after dating
for eight years and having two beautiful and very photogenic kids! As a photographer, Chloe planned
the perfect day with a dream timeline but mother nature had other plans and it poured and poured
the morning of their wedding. The rain delayed our timeline by a bit but when it finally cleared up
we were able to shoot their photos at the beautiful Stone Barn Gardens and the rain held off
for their ceremony….then….just as they exited their ceremony the sky opened up ! And it really opened
up. Everyone ran to their cars. But as they say rain on your wedding day is good luck and we rolled with
it and finished off their family photos and portraits at their reception venue. Matt and Chloe’s reception
was filled with laughs and tears and two very cute thank you speeches by their adorable kids.
Before I get to their wedding story, here are some words from the newlyweds.
How did you guys meet?
We both got summer jobs at our local co-op grocery store in Calgary bagging groceries 8 years
ago. We were hired together and the rest is history! I still have our name tags! Ha!
Please share the proposal story with us?
Matt asked randomly if I wanted to go visit his grandfathers resting place in the mountains where
his ashes were spread. I said sure and we worked out a date to go up with his sister and her husband on
April 1 (Yes, April Fools!) We left our kids with my parents and decided to make our day date into a little
getaway and booked a hotel room for the night. We arrived and did a tiny hike up to Norquay
Mountain overlooking the valley. Matt asked his sister to take some photos of them (which I thought
was weird because he HATES photos!) and the next thing I knew he was down on one knee asking
me to marry him. I totally thought it was a mean April Fool’s joke but it was the real deal!
Most memorable moment from your wedding day?
Bride: The most memorable day for me… ah everything! The big, the little! All morning everybody
kept asking if I was nervous, if I’m okay. I felt fine the whole day and just wanted time to speed up.
When you’re marrying the right person, there’s no nervousness, no tummy aches – I just wanted to put on my
dress and see him. If I had to choose one thing though, I would have to say the most memorable part was
watching our kids walk down the aisle… it just put into perspective everything we’ve been
through to get here and it was a moment I had been waiting for since they were born.
Groom: Waiting for Chloe during our first look then all of a sudden hearing her
giggling behind me! She has the best laugh.
Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?
I basically planned our entire Wedding so Matt had very little say in things hahaha he just
let me do what I wanted! The thing we did plan and want together though was having a caricature
there! It was just such a nice change from your typical photo booth and our guests RAVED about
it. We loved seeing everyones portraits and we love ours and can’t wait to find a place for it in our home.
Besides making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision
you made for your wedding? What made it so easy?
The easiest decision we made was our vendors. Being in the Wedding industry I knew
the lineup I personally wanted and it also made the planning process a breeze. Your vendors can make or
break your wedding day and our vendors MADE our Wedding day. Matt even gave me a “good job
babe, our wedding was amazing” which was nice to hear after all the backlash I received doubling
our budget… LOL it’s worth it!!!!
What was the most difficult, time consuming choice that you made for your wedding day?
I think the most difficult thing was the food and drinks! LOL it’s so hard to assume
what people are going to eat and drink and how much they’re going to eat and drink!
Especially if you’re a people pleaser like myself. It helped to ask a handful of family members
what they would want and then you kind of get a ballpark.
Advice to couples planning their wedding day?
Oh man, so much advice! First of all, start the planning process early! Do your research on vendors and
go with your gut. Little things go wrong, even big things go wrong? Just know that nobody notices them except you.
We had some minor glitches and I thought our day was a mess at one point after a torrential down pour
right after our ceremony. But after chatting with guests they were so confused because they don’t
see whats going wrong! Don’t sweat the small stuff. Take a moment and enjoy all that you can.
It goes by so quickly and you’ll hate yourself for dwelling on those things that didn’t go as
you’d planned. And dance, make sure you dance!
And now here is Matt & Chloe’s Wedding Story
There is something so extra special about documenting parents on wedding days. I just love these
photos of Matt getting Carter ready. Hello gorgeous details! I just love all the soft pretty textures and colors. If you know Chloe you know she is a self confessed fast food addict so it was fitting that she had
fries on her wedding day! I was taking a photo of the girls in their robes when Carter (M& C’s son) walked in in his suit. Their
reactions were priceless! It was raining all morning so we did the first look indoors. Their hotel was so beautiful and had so many
beautiful spots to chose from but we (me and the amazing videographer) wanted somewhere private and
quiet so their words could be heard on video.
After their first look we made our way to the Stone Barn Gardens for some portraits
