Mark & Brenna’s Snowy Mountain Midi Session
This snowy couples session in Canmore just makes my big snow obsessed heart flutter!
I am not really sure when my obsession with winter sessions started but I am happy that
it did. I just love the snow. But the snow comes with its challenges. Especially up in the
mountains when you step off the path and sink in snow up to your knees or hips! And this
actually happened to Mark when he picked up Brenna. He stepped back into deep snow and
down they went! It was so funny and it happened right at the beginning of their session so they
got cold fast but luckily it was a midi session so short and sweet!
Some words from Mark & Brenna
How & when did you two meet? What was your first date?
We actually met almost 5 years ago online on Plenty of Fish. I was going to University in
Lethbridge and he was living in Okotoks working in Calgary. We didn’t match on the
site (it was a whole lot of scrolling through some crazies) I just happened to stumble across his profile.
He checked literally every box I was looking for and so I reached out to him first. We messaged
back and forth for a few days then I was sick of the app and wanted to delete it so I sent
him a message with my cell number basically saying if he wanted to keep chatting to text me.
I deleted the app and then completely panicked thinking that when you delete your profile all your
messages disappear and worried he may never see the last one I sent. Sure enough though I got a
text from him shortly after. We continued texting and talking on the phone for 4 months before meeting
in person. We talked every night on the phone for at least 3 hours; I don’t think I’ll ever be more thankful for unlimited calling
on phone plans than during that time!
One of my friend’s and I made a trip up to Calgary and we made plans to meet at Chinook Mall
where she dropped me off for the day. He text me saying he was there and I was having trouble
finding him so I called and tried to describe where I was outside. While giving different landmarks
I noticed a really good looking guy on the phone and thought to myself “man he is pretty hot”
and turns out it was him! So that was lucky. We left the mall and he drove the two of us out to Okotoks
where we went for lunch at his favorite restaurant Original Joes. At the time I was a fairly picky
eater but didn’t want him to know that so when he ordered some appies for us to try I didn’t object
(even though there were some I was sure I wouldn’t like). He ordered some deep fried Gyoza (something
I would have never ate before) which was actually so so good and to this day is still one of my favorites.
After lunch we went back to his place where I met his dog and we talked for longer than I can remember.
I was just about to start teaching him some country swing dance moves when my friend came to pick me up.
I said we would have to save the lesson for next time and he kind of just stood there not sure of what to say.
I think he just didn’t want me to go yet. My friend and I argued in my car for what felt like forever with her
trying to get me to give him a kiss goodbye while he was standing right outside the window. I felt like I was 16 again
and was super embarrassed but finally convinced her to leave. As we drove away she said “so?” and I just smiled
and said ” I am already wondering when I will see him again”. A week and a half later including 1 more
date and a trip to my small hometown for our 100th year Centennial he asked me to be his girlfriend at the
fireworks finale on Canada Day and the rest, as they say, is history.
It is crazy to think that had we both not been on that app and if I hadn’t noticed his profile that
day the odds of us meeting were slim to none. That is why I truly believe everything happens for a reason.
Do you have all time favorite date you’ve been on?
Our second date is our favorite. He came up with the idea and all he told me was to wear
something comfortable and bring a hat. I spent hours with my friend trying to decide what to
wear since I had no clue what to expect. He decided he wanted to take me to the Longview Steakhouse
for a nice dinner. According to him that was the main idea and then he just wung it from there.
Since the drive is so beautiful out there he figured it would be fun to have a nice ride to get there.
He ended up borrowing his Step Dad’s 2000 Firebird Convertible for us to cruise around in. I showed up
to his place and the car was already in the driveway and I remember thinking it was pretty cool as I
had never ridden in a convertible before. That’s when I clued in about needing the hat for the sun but
also to protect my hair from going all over the place. Turns out he wasn’t able to make a reservation
for the Steakhouse that close to the day but still wanted to drive out that way so switched gears
and decided we would go to the Longview Hotel for dinner instead. It was such a gorgeous day for a drive.
After dinner we went to Grillo’s Pizzeria for ice cream (ice cream is my absolute favorite!) When asked
what made him choose to go there he said that when we stopped at the 4-way stop heading to the hotel he
saw it on the corner and thought it would be a good idea. They have over 40 flavors and I chose to get maple walnut.
I remember him saying, “all those options and you get maple walnut?!?” and then he got the same kind.
He executed the whole thing while flying by the seat of his pants and just went with the flow as
opposed to planning out every single detail and it was one of our favorite days.
What is your favorite trip or experience you two have done together? What made it so special?
In March 2017 we traveled to Holguin, Cuba with 2 of our best friends and it was such an amazing
trip! It was our first vacation together and the first time he was able to take time off work in awhile.
It was so nice to disconnect from busy life for a bit and just relax and enjoy. While we were there we
went on a full day excursion which included swimming with dolphins in the ocean, a catamaran ride,
snorkeling and a lobster lunch! We spent a lot of time at the pool, went to multiple different restaurants
at the resort and I am pretty sure I went to the ice cream shop every single day. Our favorite memory from
the trip was the date night we went on just the two of us. He booked us a private gazebo on the beach
where we had a delicious 4 course meal with lobster as the main dish. We had lobster at least 3-4 times
while we were there and it was the best lobster we have ever had. We had our own private band that played
while we ate and our own server from the seafood restaurant nearby. It was nice to have time just us and
on the beach no less! Halfway through there was a flash rain storm and our server continued standing
outside in the rain until we insisted she come under the gazebo to wait it out. We closed the white curtains
to try and block some of the rain and learnt more about her and her culture while we waited for the storm to
pass. There was a bit of a language barrier but we all found ways to rephrase things so we could communicate
and honestly it was so amazing to chat with her and get to know her. The rain eventually stopped and we carried on with our night.
It was such a fun trip and that date night will always be one of our favorites.
